Maple Highlands Trail

The Maple Highlands Trail is a 21-mile long paved linear park in Geauga County that utilizes sections of the abandoned Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Railroad corridor. There are five covered bridges along the trail.

There are three sections of this trail:

  • North - 4.2 miles from Colburn Road to South Street in Chardon.
  • Central - 8.2 miles from South Street in Chardon to Headwaters Park.
  • South - 7 miles from Headwaters Park to Swine Creek Reservation.

As of November 2020, work has been completed to connect the North and Central sections through downtown Chardon (between Water Street and South Street), so there is now continuous off-road trail from the northern end at Colburn Road all the way to Kinsman Road (State Route 87) in Middlefield.

The South section has on-street connections through downtown Middlefield and a brief on-road section north of the Swine Creek Reservation. Horses are permitted on the south section only.

Trailheads & Parking

There are other smaller parking areas available, but those listed above have the most amenities, including restrooms, picnic areas, etc.
