The Freedom Trail, part of Summit Metro Parks, is a paved rail-trail a little over 6 miles long that will eventually connect downtown Akron to downtown Kent. The current eastern end of the trail is at Middlebury Road, where you can ride on the road for only about one-quarter mile to connect to the Portage Hike & Bike Trail for access to Kent.

The Freedom Trail passes through Tallmadge, with easy access to restaurants and other services.

The current western end near Akron is at Eastwood Road. Work is underway on completing the trail directly into downtown Akron; in the meantime, you can follow Eastwood Road to North Avenue, which intersects with the Towpath Trail.
